Arthritis Pain Relief and Arthritis in the Joints

To  get the arthritis pain relief you're seeking it's helpful to understand how arthritis works.  Here is a fairly easy explanation of arthritis in the joints and will give you some help understanding arthritis and therefore helpful in your search for arthritis pain relief.

The joints are designed to provide flexibility, support, stability, and protection. These are  designed for normal and painless movement and are primarily supplied by the synovium and cartilage. Damaged joints cause pain and sufferers are constantly looking for ways to relieve the pain.

The synovium is a membrane that surrounds the whole joint. It's filled with synovial fluid, a lubricating liquid that supplies nutrients and oxygen to  the cartilage.

The cartilage is slippery tissue that coats the ends of the bones. Cartilage is one of the few tissues  that does not have its own blood supply. Cartilage contains chondrocytes, water, proteoglycans and collagen.

Chondrocytes are the basic cartilage cells and are necessary for balance and function.

Cartilage contains a high percentage of water, but decreases with age.   85% of cartilage is water in youth and about 70% is water in older folks.

Proteoglycans are large molecules that help make up cartilage. They bond to water, which ensures the high-fluid content in cartilage.

Collagen is the essential protein in cartilage, it forms a mesh to give support and flexibility to the joint. Collagen is the main protein found in all connective tissues in the body, including the muscles, ligaments, and tendons.

The combination of the collagen meshwork and high water content tightly bound by proteoglycans, creates a resilient, slippery pad in the joint, which resists the compression between bones during muscle movement. The synovial fluid lubricates and provides oxygen and nutrients to the cartilage, which as we mentioned has no blood.

When these joints are damaged then pain sets in.  Pain can be moderate to severe.  Sufferers are always seeking pain relief.

I hope this information was helpful in understanding how the joints work and why arthritis pain sets in.  It will help in your ongoing search for arthritis pain relief.  It's important to stop this arthritic process to ward off the ongoing damage and resulting arthritis pain, makes you seek out arthritis pain relief.
